Focus on Green Veggies

A big part of the food lovers diet is focused on eating green vegetables. This is a good thing because it would not just make you lose weight but will also enhance your cardiovascular and digestive system. Ideally, it is recommended to eat green salad before you start with your well-balance main course. The logic behind this is to make you feel full so you can limit the amount of food that you eat. It is alright to stuff yourself up with vegetables because these are low in carbohydrates but high in fiber.

More Proteins and Less Carbohydrates

For your main course, it is okay to eat a little amount of carbohydrates. However, the most important nutrient that you should get is protein. This enables you to develop leaner and stronger muscles while getting rid of the extra fat. At the same time, proteins will make you feel full for a longer time so you would eat less often.

Burn Those Fat Through Exercise

The good thing about food lovers diet is that it encourages you to exercise so you would not easily gain back the weight that you will lose. The plan does not force you to sign up for a gym or go through rigorous workout plan. All it takes is to do simple cardio exercises like jogging, running or swimming, depending on your preference. To strengthen your body, you can also do some push ups, crunches, sit ups or squats.

Sweet Whoopie Pies

13 Mar

The whoopie pies were perfect to represent the black-and-white theme of The Artist. Luckily, my second try was a big, fat (literally) success. And, as it turns out, I picked a great dessert for the night.Whoopie piesIt all starts with a cake mix which is always a fabulous way to begin in my book.  The filling is make with butter, cream cheese, and marshmallow fluff – a deadly but delicious triple combination.  Not only is the filling orange in color, but it also has a light orange flavor thanks to a little orange extract.  If you don’t have the orange extract, just use some vanilla extract in it’s place.  Then you create a simple spider web with a powder sugar glaze.  I also purchased spider rings to add to the whoopie pies.  I just cut off the ring part and set them on top of the cookie.

The other day I overheard a woman talking to her husband about how excited she was that whoopie pies have become popular recently because she loves them. It made me realize it had been too long since I last made a batch of whoopie pies. Usually I don’t like things that have a more cakey texture. I prefer my cookies to be chewy and my brownies to be fudgey. However, for some reason the texture of a whoopie pie just makes me smile and I actually find myself craving it. It’s slightly chewy around the edges but soft and cakey throughout. Not to mention it’s filled high with luscious frosting. Spiderweb-Whoopie-PiesRecently the whoopie pie has become gentrified with the cake rounds being made in pumpkin, ginger, blueberry, chocolate chip, and other flavors and the fillings similarly varied and refined. A short while ago the New York Times featured an article on tony whoopie pies claiming that they were the new cupcake (cup cakes, for your information, having been very trendy for the last two years or so.)

Orcutt cited other state desserts: Massachusetts, for example, has claimed Boston Crème Pie and the chocolate chip cookie both. He gave credit to Ashland High School Youth in Government who practiced legislative skills by writing a bill proposing whoopie pies as the state dessert.

Orcutt encouraged Baldacci to pass the legislation in time to announce it on June 26 which is Whoopie Pie Day in Dover-Foxcroft. Orcutt told the Governor that Maine ought to be known for other food than lobsters.

Whoopie pies are traditionally two rounds of chocolate sponge cake with a vanilla filling made either of sweetened vegetable shortening (that is, Crisco) or a marshmallow based concoction. Their point of origin is in dispute, with Pennsylvania a strong contender but they were adopted in Maine early in the 20th century for no apparent reason and consequently many nostalgic vacationers have fond memories of whoopie pie filled summers in Maine.

Eating Healthily with Pistachio

7 Mar

Pistachio looks like beautiful with its emerald hue. Many people like it ,but have little ideas of it .It is not only famous with fresh-color, but also with its nutritional value. First of all, it commonly grown in Turkey and Iran, 98 percent of the American crop of pistachios is grown in California. You can spot these distinctive nuts by their tan outer shell and the small green nut peaking out (the shell splits open when the nuts are ripe). Pistachios are available shelled or unshelled, salted or unsalted. Some research suggests that shelled nuts are a better choice for portion control– having to pop open the shell slows you down when munching. I love its original tasting, but it is also great with other ways to do with it. Eating healthily is our goal!

Eating Healthily with Pistachios

And one-ounce portion of pistachios (about 50 pieces) has 157 calories, 13 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein. You’ll also be crunching on an ample amount of iron, thiamin and vitamin B6. Pistachios also rank highest among nuts in the antioxidant department.

What To Do With Pistachios
When crushing up pistachios to make a coating for chicken or fish. Sprinkle chopped nuts to add crunch to salads and grain dishes or blend with herbs for a fresh take on pesto. The sweet and nutty flavor can also jazz up cookies, fruit salad, yogurt parfaits and frozen yogurt. To enhance the flavor, toast in a dry pan or 375-degree oven for 5 minutes before using. Or try the following simple recipe, courtesy of Pistachio Health.

Pistachios + Aged Gouda + Gala Apple Wedges Drizzled with Lavender Honey + Cold Ginger Beer (in photo above)

A delicate hint of salted, dry-roasted pistachios counterbalance the caramel-like sweetness of aged Gouda to blend naturally with the crisp juiciness of Gala apples. Lavender honey adds a fragrant, sweet earthiness that brings out the pistachios’ own earthy flavor.

Thinly slice Gala apples and arrange on a platter; drizzle with lavender honey and serve alongside chunks of aged Gouda and bowls brimming with pistachios.

All of these good recipes is for you, hope you have a healthy eating.
